Nautical Nests

Blue and white are almost always associated with  the classic nautical look. This look makes it feel like summer all year  long..Who doesn't love summer? If you are thinking about this look for your home, grab some sailing or boating magazines and look at the items  on the boat that are of interest to you, and try to implement that look into your room..Teak,is a beautiful wood, that can be used for a piece of furniture. (I can't tell you how many hours I have put into cleaning and oiling teak in my life!) cleats, can be used as door pulls or door handles, nautical flags are bright and colorful..these are just a few ideas .I think you get the idea. These nests are the example of the quintessential nautical look.

Don't be afraid to use antiques with new pieces . Love the striped  drapes, and the pops of red.

Asian style ginger jars and the zebra rug add the unexpected, and still completes the look.

Add different textures like rattan.I love the vintage suitcases.

Just one boat....please.

I love the  nautical charts as a wallcovering..

This reminds me of the Montauk Yacht club...Great lanterns.

This light and airy room has such a relaxed look.I am going to get my oars up one of these days.

Add themed pillows
This room is my favorite. These prints are beautiful.

Obsessions

I have a bad case of the "I wants" Do you ever get those? These are some things i am obsessing over right now, that are great for the seaside and coastal style. Some are affordable, some....not so much.

This color is gorgeous!Zgallerie

I don't NEED a new cover for my nook , but I WANT one, Love the blue lagoon.Vera Bradley

This beauty has a 575.00 price tag..I could spend the money else where, in fact I will ,but I just adore this.Verdura

This submarine vase is so simple and elegant.  A palm leaf would look so pretty in this don't you think?.Jean Marc Gady

The beautiful piece by Nancy Westfall has been featured in House Beautiful.

The 2011 collection by Isola Bella, is gorgeous! No coastal  home should be without pillows like these. These fabrics  are  bright and cheery.

Tres cute!Jute and Pearl bracelet

Anything Lilly I love. Living here in the south, being on the water all the time, I wouldn't be caught dead without crokies. I have lost too many pair of expensive glasses in the river. A monogram on these would be cute too.Lilly Pullitzer

This company is so cool. Design your own fabric, they have some really creative designs as well.Spoonflower

My mom bought these, when I saw them I was amazed! These are a must have!. Nate Berkus's Flame less, candles have a remote. They feel like real candles. Would be great outside for a dinner party. They look amazing on my mom's mantle. I should have taken a pic darn. Trust me these are worth it!HSN

This is my newest mission. I have been looking for a vintage cake plate, but haven't found the right one yet. I love these byWisteria

Milk glass ,was often considered the "poor man's porcelain", is all the rage right now in cottage and the shabby chic look. I just bought a vintage Fenton dish. I think this is a look you either love or hate.

Fishing Lure Shadow Box

I spent most of my childhood and young adult life fishing the eastern seaboard. The love for fishing and the sea  is reflected in my home.. I love fish, nautical charts, fishing reels etc. When my dad passed we were inundated with all of his tackle, rods and reels. One day I was going through one of his several huge tackle boxes when I found some beautiful lures. They are beautiful in color, whimsical, and above all sentimental to me.I had to display them!I understand this may not be every ones cup of tea, but I love them! I was amazed to find on EBay that some of these lures can go for over 100.00.! If you like this project it is easy to create. It would also be great look for fly fishing lures. I got a shadow box from Michael's hung the lures by their hooks and that is it.

I love his face and the pink and green . ( he is very preppy)
This one reminds me of a nautical flag.

This is a side winder, I love the detail.

Here it is finished. It hangs in our 1/2 bath. I may try to hang them horizontally as well and see how it looks.

This is an easy look to achieve if you have lures already, or you can check out EBay, or go to a fishing supply store. This would look great in any beach house, I think anyway . What do you think?

Does Your House Have Soul?

This is an excerpt from a letter ,that Mark Twain wrote to a friend in his happier days. When I first read these words  years ago, they resonated with me and have these prolific words in my home. Shouldn't we all feel this way about our house? Enjoy!

"To us, our house...had a heart, and soul, and eyes to see us with; and approvals and solitude and deep sympathies; it was for us and we were in its confidence and lived in it grace and in the peace of it benediction "

                                                                                                                    Mark Twain

The Mark Twain home is in Harttford,CT

The architecture of this home was so far ahead of its time
My daughter in law did this in calligraphy
