Veranda Love

Spring is right around the corner and it is time to start thinking about getting my front porch and back deck ready for the lovely spring days ahead. I love my front porch, we get to use it almost year round. It is the first thing family, friends or guests see will see upon entering your home, and should reflect your personality. I just love these.

What a happy, welcoming sitting area.

Make use of every inch of your porch.Treat it as an extension of the inside of your home, by layering just as you would inside. Add an outdoor rug ,Sunbrella fabric pillows, greenery and accessorize a table.

Bring the party outside and set up a portable mini beverage center .

                                                             So inviting...

I want my hubby to dig out an area to put a palm tree on our deck. This area rocks!

Boho Beach Bungalow

Via Lately, I have been drawn to a simple coastal design that is super eclectic and chic. I love the way Designer Amelia Handegan  and her husband transformed their 1940's ocean front home on Folly Beach, SC into a comfortable beach bungalow with  boho style,

.
A great screened in porch with a simple plywood sofas.

The breezeway leads out to the dunes.

The planked walls. You know I love my planked walls!

                                                           and amazing painted floors!

This antique Asian table is turned into a vanity.

Hollywood and Beaufort By The Bay

On this Oscar Awards weekend I thought I would share with you what makes my town so special, and its connection to the Oscars.
Beaufort South Carolina's southern charm, coastal views and gorgeous antebellum homes, has made it a perfect  backdrop for  about 20  movies that have been  filmed here..Some of the most popular are; The Great Santini,  The Big Chill , The Prince of Tides and the blockbuster, Forrest Gump ! Today I'm posting about The Big Chill, one of my favorite movies.

The 1983  film  was nominated for three Oscars, best picture, best original screenplay and Glenn Close for best supporting actress.{ sadly it didn't take home any} This movie, along with  The Great Santini were filmed at this beautiful Antebellum home, known as "Tidaholm" or the Edgar Fripp House, but tourists call it the "Big Chill House". It is a must see when we have friends or relatives come to town.On any given day you can see the horses or  hear the clip clop of horse hooves as a  a horse drawn carriage take  tourists  on a carriage ride past this house touring this beautiful historic area with other antebellum mansions.

"Tidalholm" was built in 1853 by rice planter Edgar Fripp, who used this home as a summer house, where he came to escape the mosquitoes on St. Helena Island .What is funny about this this is St. Helena is only about 10 miles down the road.  When the Great South Carolina Expedition brought 80-some Union naval vessels and  Union soldiers into Port Royal Harbor, the planters left and abandoned these homes to save their  lives. The home also served as a union hospital during the civil war.

Just Saying

Instead of standing on the shore and proving to ourselves that the ocean cannot carry us, let us venture on its waters - just to see.

Almost "Nana"

I received a very exciting phone call this morning.Exciting news was really needed, after a rough week of the passing of 2 friends .Our grand daughter is going to be here in a week!!! She was due the 19th of March, but the Doctor said " see you next week"!
It has been incredible, to watch her grow in the ultra sounds, that we get to watch on our computer! My ..how things have changed since my youngest was born almost 21 yrs ago.The ultra sounds tell my daughter in law how much the baby weighs, and is so much more in depth. We have also been able to see 3 D images of her as well..  Just amazing! So I need to finish baby shopping!!!

I was looking at the website Best Dressed Tot and fell in love with these outfits! Nautical of course..
She WILL be the best dressed Grand daughter!  I always had so much fun buying clothes for my daughter., but I was really  bad about buying very expensive clothes for her , and if I had to do it all over again I  would do it differently. But when you are about to be a Grandma,{ eesh can't believe I am  actually going to be one! } She is going to spoiled rotten! Aren't these adorable?

Seaside Glamour

Philip Gorrivan was one of nine designers asked by the Iconic Ocean House Resort  in Watch Hill, RI to design some of its apartments. Gorrivan's space is particularly intriguing ,as it has a private terrace and pavilion.. The architecture as you might suspect is also especially beautiful. He chose to away from the  stuffiness of the Victorian style and opted, and was encouraged to design a more modern space that depicts seaside glamour.  I think he nailed it.

                                                 The room divider simulates waves.
Love the surfboards against the grass cloth.

                                                        Barnacled bottles !
The light fixture is made from  fishing netting.
