Edisto Getaway

Hello Everyone! I hope you all had a great weekend! This past weekend my husband and I got out of town in the camper for the hubs 54th birthday. We stuck close to home this trip since he had surgery 3 weeks ago and doesn't quiet have all his strength back. So we went to one of our favorite places, Edisto Beach.  We are truly blessed to live so close to not one but two of the most beautiful beaches on the East Coast.
As much as I love the warm weather, I am definitely ready for it to cool down. It was almost 90 degrees on Friday and Saturday! Hardly Fall weather, but we were lucky it was such a nice weekend.
Saturday we took a 4 mile bike ride on a nature trail inside the state park.
The photos aren't the best quality ,as I took them with the phone. My husband didn't want be to put the Nikon in the basket of my beach cruiser.....  jeez.. why not? :)

The salt marsh in the early morning, we were riding over a little bridge.

This is a large Oak Tree. The roots were salt water soaked and gives the                                                   appearance of driftwood. The detail in the wood was so pretty.
The part of the trail we took was on an ancient shell mound, this mound of
Oyster shells  was  about 15 feet high.

This is Store Creek along the nature trail path.

After a two hour ride and picture taking we went and grabbed some lunch.

The other side of the Pavilion is a bar where this rather large crustacean was standing!

Then we hit the beach for a bit it was so pretty out. We couldn't get a spot on the beach side of the Campground this trip, we had to stay down the road at The Oaks . The campground was lovely, and so was the beach!

My husband loves to cook, and when we camp he does all the cooking. This is what I him  for his birthday. This my friends is the Camp Chef Explorer! It is a steel and cast iron two burner stove. I am so lucky to have a husband that cooks, and does it so well. This stove is great ! If you camp a lot it is super to have, and  there are several different models.

The weekends seem to go so fast.. this was a lovely way to spend it. Have a great day!

Meet A Girl With A Surfboard

Happy Friday! Today I want to introduce you to  a special artist. Her name is Carin Vaughn . She and I have been following each other on Pinterest for quiet awhile and always love the surfing images she pins.{ I have stated many times, surfing is the one sport I wish I learned , so I am always drawn to anything related to it.} So, I finally got around to to seeing who the lady was behind these images, and I am so glad I did!

What I found was, her blog not surprisingly entitled   Girl With A Surfboard.
What was surprising.... is how much we have in common. An Island girl, who loves to surf, She is wife and mom.We share a passion for design, she loves the sea, and is  an avid angler, and she lives 2 towns over from me on Hilton Head Island!

Carin is  basically self taught oil painter, who started off  doing murals. She now has and Etsy shop, and... NBC's show Parenthood bought one of her paintings for their set! How cool! So let's see her work!

                                                                 I love this painting!!

                                                                      And this one!

See her painting in the background..

When I saw this, I was immediately drawn to it. A few years ago I sketched something very similar to this for my son. We love our Red Fish( aka) Spot Tail Bass here!

I hope you enjoyed seeing her work. Stop by her blog and her  Etsy Shop to see more of her work.

Have a great day!

Nantucket Nest

A centuries old Nantucket cottage has been converted into a Summer home for a young family from Boston..The house was originally Constructed in 1739 by the Macy family, kin to the same family who went on to start the department store Macy's.
It was one of the first residential homes on this quaint island. What was originally a fisherman's shack has transformed over the centuries. The current owners purchased the home  four years ago and have put a lot of blood sweat and tears into it to create a perfect place for this busy family to relax. The daughters room is adorable!

Serenity On The Sound

I am always so happy to see  beautiful homes from my old " stomping grounds" of Rowayton,, CT and this house is no exception. Architectural Designer Louise Brooks along with friend and confidant Designer Lynn Morgan helped create a beautiful sea inspired home for the sea loving family with out it being a real beach home with obvious nautical touches. Instead Louise used her favorite color White through out the entire home, with soft Blues and coastal Greys along with original  artwork to create a coastal feel..This traditional home that sits on a bluff over looking the sound is a serene dream.

What I'm Loving Now

I LOVE the knitted coffee cozies I am seeing all over Etsy right now! Not only are they so cute, but they are great for the environment instead of the cardboard holders and will keep your coffee or tea warmer longer. I really like this one shop Natalya's Studio.

She makes these adorable cozies in several colors.

She also has patterns you can purchase to make your own. So maybe it is time for me to get the old knitting needles out and make one for myself.  Check out her shop for knitted cowls also.. I have really wanted one, but it hasn't been that cold here in the South the last two Winters. Hopefully it will be this year so I can buy, or make one for myself.

Have a wonderful day!

Herbed Spaghetti Squash

Happy Sunday! I thought I would share with you one of my new fave recipes.! If you are watching your carb intake it is great .I must admit, I am not a huge vegetable eater, but I am trying to be better. However, I do LOVE Spaghetti Squash. This recipe  is so easy and you can modify it in many ways. This happens to be Emeril Lagasse's Recipe, BAM! I made it the other night and it was fabulous!

I modified the recipe by cutting  the butter in half and I added 1/2 cup of  Parmesan cheese.I served this with Broiled Shrimp.I mixed it in with the Squash. A super easy dinner recipe or a simple side! Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 1 small spaghetti squash, about 2 1/4 pounds
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons finely chopped mixed soft herbs, such as basil, chives, chervil, parsley and sage
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
Using a sharp knife, cut the squash in half lengthwise and place, cut side down, in a baking dish. Add enough water to come 1/2-inch up the sides of the baking dish and cover with aluminum foil. Bake for 45 minutes, until the squash is easily pierced with a paring knife. Turn squash over and cover with foil again and continue to cook another 15 minutes, until the squash is very tender. Remove from the oven, uncover, and allow to cool slightly. Using a spoon, remove the seeds and discard. Using a fork, gently pull the strands of squash away from the peel and place the squash strands into a mixing bowl.
Heat a skillet. Add the butter, spaghetti squash, herbs, salt and pepper and toss thoroughly but gently to heat and combine. Serve immediately or cover and keep warm until ready to serve.

A Beach Side Cottage

Weather worn surfaces, wicker and beachy accents make this adorable 1912 beach side cottage in California a perfect place to call home! The only thing separating this family from the beach is the sidewalk in front of the house.. It is  an easy breezy carefree home that uses fabrics and rugs that are durable and chic that will hold up to the beach chic lifestyle.Mix in some vintage pieces, and some antiques and you have a perfect cottage.

The Dutch front door is charming!!

The white washed brick mellows the mood. I really like the coral placed in the planter
      on the fireplace.
Such a cozy bedroom! Can't you just hear the ocean?

                                                      A beautiful waterfront view!

I love the planters above the sink, with the numbers on them. I have been wanting to do this, and put the dates of each one of my kids birthdays on them!

The tray by the stove is a great space saving idea, especially in a small cottage kitchen, holding  all your kitchen "goodies" together. I just recently did this.

No beach side cottage would be complete with out White bead boarding.

The relaxed dining room table with the wicker chairs, Soo great!

Have a great Monday!
